The 8th play in August Wilson's decade by decade cycle of plays about the black American experience in the twentieth century.
Story:
Because taxi caps will not travel to the Pittsburgh Hill District, unofficial, unlicensed jitneys fill that need, and Jim Becker runs the local station. A conflict between Youngblood and Turnbo, the return of Becker's son from prison and news of a possible eviction have everyone on edge and questioning whether to fight or move along.
Jitney premiered at the Allegheny Repertory Theatre in 1982. When Wilson took his mother to see that production they arrived by jitney.
